DA-026 - “The Sentient Puzzle”
Object Class: Unpredictable
Secure Containment Guidelines:
DA-026 is to be kept in a standard containment locker at Site-██. Access to DA-026 requires Level 2 clearance and must be authorized by at least two personnel. When not in use for testing, DA-026 is to be disassembled into its individual pieces and stored in separate compartments within its containment locker.
Description:
DA-026 is a standard 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle depicting a landscape scene of a forest. When assembled, DA-026 appears to be an ordinary puzzle with no anomalous properties. However, when a subject begins to take apart DA-026, the puzzle pieces will move and reassemble themselves autonomously to form a new image.
Subjects who attempt to take apart DA-026 report feeling a compulsion to continue taking apart the puzzle, even when they become aware of the anomalous properties. Once DA-026 has been completely disassembled, the puzzle pieces will begin to move and reassemble themselves into a new image within 24 hours.
DA-026 does not appear to pose any immediate danger to personnel or the general public, and its anomalous properties appear to be limited to its ability to autonomously reassemble itself. Research into the origin and purpose of DA-026 is ongoing.
Addendum - Incident DA-026-1:
On ██/██/20██, Researcher Johnson requested access to DA-026 for testing purposes. Despite not having the proper clearance level, Johnson was able to bypass security protocols and gain access to the containment locker where DA-026 was stored.
Johnson proceeded to take apart the puzzle, and as he did so, he became increasingly obsessed with the task, working for several hours without taking a break. When Johnson was finally interrupted by security personnel, he had completely disassembled the puzzle and was attempting to fit the pieces together in random patterns.
Upon being removed from the containment area, Johnson became agitated and attempted to retrieve the puzzle pieces. Security personnel had to restrain him and escort him to the medical bay for observation.
Over the next several days, Johnson continued to exhibit obsessive behavior and an intense desire to reassemble DA-026. He was eventually diagnosed with a severe form of OCD and placed on extended medical leave.
As a result of this incident, access to DA-026 has been restricted to Level 2 personnel or higher, and additional security measures have been put in place to prevent unauthorized access.
