DA-098 : Formally DA-085
Past the Static on the Screen
Object Class: Medium
Secure Containment Guidelines:
DA-098 is to be contained in a reinforced anomalous object containment chamber at Site-██. The containment chamber must be equipped with a standard CRT television set and a video input device capable of receiving analog signals. The television set should be operated using a consistent power source. The chamber must be kept under 24/7 video surveillance.
Access to DA-098 is restricted to Level 3 personnel or above. Experimentation involving DA-098 requires approval from the Site Director. All personnel assigned to DA-098 must undergo regular psychological evaluations.
Description:
DA-098 is an anomalous phenomenon that affects CRT television sets. When a television set becomes affected by DA-098, it will exhibit unusual behaviour. Initially, the screen will display heavy static interference, obscuring any other video or audio signals. If left uninterrupted for an extended period of time (usually between 10-15 days), the static will gradually diminish, and the television will begin to load a random piece of media.
The loaded media can take various forms, including television broadcasts, films, home videos, or even animations. The content appears to be completely random and does not follow any discernible pattern or logic. The media may be sourced from different time periods, genres, languages, or even alternate realities.
The loaded media is not limited to pre-existing content and has been observed to display original, previously unseen material. However, it should be noted that the majority of the content appears to be of low quality, with a noticeable degradation in both visual and audio fidelity. The media can range from mundane and harmless to disturbing or even dangerous.
Attempts to manipulate or control the selection of media have been unsuccessful. Any physical interaction with the television during the loading process results in an immediate interruption, resetting the screen to static. Restarting the process is only possible by allowing the static to remain undisturbed once again.
Extended exposure to DA-098 has been known to cause psychological effects in individuals. These effects include increased fascination and obsession with the media loaded by DA-098, often resulting in neglect of personal needs and responsibilities. Prolonged exposure has led to cases of severe emotional distress, detachment from reality, and self-isolation.
Addendum:
Incident Report Delta-098: On ██/██/████, Researcher Dr. ██████ initiated an unauthorized experiment by attempting to record the media loaded by DA-098. During the process, the loaded media depicted an unsettling and distressing scene, resulting in psychological trauma to Dr. ██████. The experiment was immediately terminated, and Dr. ██████ was provided with appropriate psychological support. Access to DA-098 for recording purposes is strictly prohibited.
